If you’re craving warm, comforting Indian food in downtown Boise, Taj Mahal is it. While this might be my blog, this is probably my husband’s favorite restaurant in town. It’s become one of our go-to date night spots when we want something flavorful, filling, and just plain satisfying.
We started with the Bengan Pakora—crispy fried eggplant fritters that were so dang good. And can we talk about the house chutneys for a second? I think I could drink them (is that weird?).
Also, pro tip: ask for extra chutney. You’ll thank me later.
Adam is a total creature of habit and orders the lamb biryani every. single. time. It’s rich, perfectly spiced, and seriously delicious, so I can’t really fault him for ordering the same thing every time.
I’m more of a “let’s try something new every time” kinda gal, and this round I ordered the Chicken Seekh Kabab. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked, served on a bed of rice, and came with some veggies I still think about to this day.
Whether you’re already a fan of Indian food or just dipping your toes in, Taj Mahal is super approachable and so worth trying. The portions are generous, the staff is friendly, and the whole vibe is cozy and casual. Perfect for date night, takeout, or when you’re just in the mood for something comforting and different.
I would definitely recommend making a reservation on weekends because they can fill up quick! Keep in mind that everything is made to order and we were told they prepare it the same way they would at home for their own family, which means some dishes can take extra time. My suggestion would be to go in with plenty of time because you’ll want the chance to soak up the atmosphere and really enjoy your food and good company. Also, be sure to go hungry because the portion sizes are huge!
